Before changing the grinder, check what the machine is doing

Hot-water flow does not prove that every internal coffee component is healthy. It does, however, make a completely empty tank, unseated tank and total pump failure less likely. If neither coffee nor hot water comes out
- Fill the tank with fresh water. Do not rely on looking through the side from a distance.
- Remove and reinstall the tank. Lower it squarely and press it into its normal seated position without forcing the valve.
- Check the water indicator. If it remains illuminated with a full tank, reseat the tank once; do not wedge or bypass its detector.
- Consider recent tank history. A new machine, a tank that ran empty or long storage can leave air in the water circuit.
- Use the correct hot-water spout. The machine cannot perform that test correctly if the milk carafe occupies the connector.
- Respond to an empty-circuit prompt. Deliver hot water once as directed and allow the prompted operation to finish.

If hot water works but coffee does not
Normal hot-water delivery narrows the next controlled attempt. Fill the hopper with suitable dry beans, select an ordinary coffee recipe at a moderate strength and listen. Do not change the recipe, strength and grinder setting simultaneously.
- Confirm bean mode. Make sure pre-ground mode was not selected accidentally.
- Listen during the grinding phase. Normal grinding should be distinct from silence, free-spinning or harsh stalling.
- Watch both coffee outlets. Note whether one side drips, both sides drip or both stay completely dry.

Coffee comes from only one spout
One-sided delivery normally starts at the adjustable external coffee outlet, not at the water tank. Lower the outlet for access, let it cool, wipe both openings with a clean damp cloth and remove visible encrusted coffee carefully. De’Longhi permits careful use of a toothpick at the nozzle opening when necessary.
Do not enlarge the hole, push a metal wire deep into the machine or remove the outlet assembly. Run one coffee afterward. If the previously dry side returns, the restriction was local. If both sides are now only dripping, continue with grind and infuser checks rather than probing farther.
Coffee is delivered very slowly or drop by drop
A grind that is too fine can create more resistance than the brewing system can overcome. The correction must be controlled:
- Start a bean-based coffee so the grinder begins operating.
- While the grinder is actually running, move the adjustment dial only one step toward a coarser setting.
- Leave drink choice and strength unchanged.
- Evaluate the effect only after at least two coffees, because the change is not immediate.
Never rotate the grinder dial several numbers at once and never turn it while the grinder is stationary. If the current attempt produces no liquid at all, do not queue repeated drinks merely to make the dial available. Allow the machine to finish, then make one controlled adjustment during the next grinding phase.

Use ordinary, dry roasted coffee beans. Very oily, caramelized, candied or coated beans can stick in the hopper or grinder path. Do not pour water into the hopper, reach inside with fingers or metal tools, or add household lubricant.
Tap the hopper only lightly from the outside if beans are visibly bridging above the feed opening. Check accidental pre-ground mode and the funnel
Pre-ground mode changes what you should hear. The grinder will not run when the machine expects coffee through the pre-ground funnel. If that mode was selected without adding coffee, the machine can interrupt preparation and show a warning.
- Return to a normal bean recipe if pre-ground coffee was not intended.
- When intentionally using pre-ground coffee, follow the exact sequence and use only one level measuring scoop.
- Do not add pre-ground coffee to the bean hopper.
- Open the funnel cover and remove only loose, visible residue with the supplied brush when the machine is safely off.
- Never pour water or cleaner into the pre-ground funnel.

Inspect the infuser without forcing it
The removable infuser must reach its service position during a normal shutdown. Trying to remove it while the machine is on, or after disconnecting power before shutdown finishes, can make it appear stuck.

- Switch the machine on and let startup finish.
- Switch it off using its normal front power control.

Warnings that can prevent coffee delivery

Could descaling restore coffee flow?
Scale can gradually restrict water delivery, especially when hot-water flow has weakened as well as coffee flow. Descaling is reasonable when the machine requests it or when maintenance is genuinely due, but it should not be used as a universal first response to a silent grinder, empty hopper, blocked nozzle or misplaced infuser.
Use the model-correct descaling process and a suitable coffee-machine descaler. Once the cycle has started, complete every solution and rinse stage shown by the ECAM29084SB controls. Do not interrupt it, substitute vinegar or guess a sequence from a different Magnifica Evo panel.

What the drip tray and grounds can tell you
Automatic rinsing and internal pressure release normally send some water to the drip tray, so a small amount is not proof of a leak. The useful clue is a sudden change: the cup remains empty while much more water than normal repeatedly enters the tray. These observations guide the next branch; they do not identify an internal valve or seal from outside. Do not remove panels to follow the water.
Do not use a factory reset as a mechanical fix
A settings reset can restore programmed drink quantities, but it cannot seat the tank, prime an empty circuit, feed beans, clear an outlet, move a jammed infuser or remove scale. Unplugging for a few minutes can restart electronics after a temporary control issue, but it is not proof that the underlying restriction has been repaired.
If you perform one normal power cycle, let the machine finish shutdown before unplugging it. Reconnect it, allow startup and rinsing to finish and run only the relevant controlled test. Repeated resets can erase useful context without correcting the fault.
When to stop troubleshooting and request service
- No coffee or hot water after the full tank, correct spout and prompted circuit-fill checks.
- Hot water works but coffee remains absent after one grind correction, external nozzle cleaning and correct infuser handling.
- The grinder is harsh, stalled or repeatedly fails to feed suitable beans.
- The infuser cannot be removed or reinstalled after a complete normal shutdown.
- A general alarm immediately returns after the accessible parts are cleaned and seated.
- Water repeatedly bypasses the cup into the tray or appears beneath the housing.
- The machine is within its return or warranty period and the fault appeared during first use.
