Buying a replacement part for a Breville Barista Touch is more complicated than matching the words “Breville” and “54 mm” on a product listing.
The Barista Touch in this guide is the BES880. Breville sells many parts across several 54 mm espresso machines, and some components are shared while others depend on the exact model, production revision, or exterior color.
That matters especially now that the Barista Touch Impress BES881 also exists. Despite the similar name, it is a different machine. A part advertised for BES881 should not be assumed to fit BES880 unless the manufacturer specifically lists both models.

54 mm shower-head seal
The group-head seal is one of the most relevant replacement parts for an older BES880.
Breville lists a Seal Shower Head 54mm for the Barista Touch parts catalog. When researched, the U.S. price was roughly $7, although availability and price can change.
A worn seal becomes a likely candidate when water escapes around the portafilter during extraction even though the basket rim is clean and the portafilter is correctly locked into place.
This is also one of the few actual replacement procedures Breville documents for BES880 owners rather than treating it as internal service work.
If you prefer an aftermarket option, this 54 mm kit combines a replacement shower screen and silicone gasket and explicitly lists the Breville Barista Touch BES880 as compatible.
Shower screen and showerhead screw
The shower screen sits directly above the coffee puck and distributes brewing water across the basket.
Breville’s BES880 parts listings include a 54 mm shower screen and the separate showerhead screw. That is useful because replacing a damaged screen does not necessarily mean buying an entire group-head assembly.
Do not replace the screen simply because it looks dirty. Coffee oils and residue should be cleaned first. Replacement makes more sense when the screen itself is damaged, distorted, or no longer seats correctly.
Breville Barista Touch 54 mm portafilter
The BES880 uses a 54 mm stainless steel portafilter. Breville also lists a 54 mm portafilter assembly in the BES880 parts section.
The important word is not only “54 mm.”
Breville now sells several machines that use 54 mm baskets, including BES880 and BES881 models, and there are different portafilter assemblies and revisions in the catalog. Buy by explicit model compatibility rather than diameter alone.
This is particularly important with marketplace listings where a title may name Barista Express, Barista Pro, Barista Touch, Bambino, and Touch Impress together. Some shared 54 mm accessories genuinely fit several machines; that does not mean every complete portafilter assembly does.
Portafilter spring: replace the small part before the whole handle
If a filter basket no longer stays securely inside the portafilter, the complete portafilter may not be the problem.
Breville sells the Spring Portafilter 54mm, part SP0020027, and specifically lists the Barista Touch BES880 as compatible.
The spring sits inside the portafilter and retains the basket. If the handle, locking tabs, and metal body are still healthy, replacing the spring can be much more sensible than replacing the complete assembly.
BES880 filter baskets
Breville’s BES880 catalog includes several 54 mm baskets, including single- and double-wall versions.
One current genuine example is the 54 mm Filter 2 Cup Single Wall, part SP0001520, which Breville explicitly lists for BES880 among other compatible machines.
The basket type matters:
- Single-wall baskets rely more heavily on correct grind, dose, and puck preparation.
- Dual-wall baskets create additional restriction and are more forgiving when grind consistency is less controlled.
If the only problem is a damaged or blocked basket, there is little reason to replace the portafilter as well.
Replacement tamper
The regular Barista Touch BES880 uses a removable manual tamper. It does not use the assisted Impress tamping mechanism found on the BES881.
Breville’s genuine Tamper Coffee Assembly 54mm, part SP0001516, is officially listed as compatible with the BES880.
This is another case where the similar Barista Touch and Barista Touch Impress names can create unnecessary confusion when searching for parts. Bean hopper and hopper lid
A cracked hopper or missing lid does not require replacing the grinder.
Breville lists both the Hopper Bean and Lid Bean Hopper as separate BES880 parts.
Before ordering a hopper from a third-party seller, compare the locking tabs and Breville compatibility list rather than relying only on the fact that several Barista-series machines look similar from above.
Upper burr: check the production revision before ordering
This is one of the easiest BES880 parts to get wrong.
Breville’s current parts catalog distinguishes between an Upper Burr Assembly marked “Pre 1926 PDC” and another marked “From 1926 PDC.”
The later Etzinger upper burr is sold as part SP0027464, and Breville lists BES880 among the compatible machines.
Do not order the later burr simply because your machine says BES880. Confirm which revision the replacement listing requires for your machine before purchasing it.
This is a good example of why a model number alone is sometimes not enough for an espresso machine that has remained on sale through multiple production revisions.
Water tank and filter holder
The water tank is replaceable independently of the internal water system.
For example, Breville currently lists Tank Water Kit (Brushed Stainless Steel) SP0023715 specifically for the Barista Touch BES880.
Other tank listings exist for different exterior finishes, so match the part to both the model and the version you own if appearance matters.
The ClaroSwiss filter holder is also listed separately. A damaged filter holder therefore does not require purchasing a complete water tank.
Drip tray and float
The BES880 parts catalog separates several lower-machine components instead of treating the drip area as one expensive assembly.
- Complete drip-tray assemblies for some finishes.
- Individual drip trays.
- The drip-tray float.
Color matters more here than it does with an internal basket or seal. Breville’s U.S. catalog currently includes finish-specific tray assemblies, so check the color name as well as BES880 compatibility before ordering.
Steam-wand nozzle and milk jug
Breville lists an external Nozzle Steam Wand Assembly and a replacement milk jug in its BES880 parts catalog.
These should not be confused with internal milk-temperature sensor, wiring, steam-valve, or control faults.
If replacing an external nozzle will not address the symptom because the machine has an internal electrical or hydraulic failure, you are no longer shopping for a normal consumer replacement part.

Replacement part or accessory? They are not the same thing
Breville’s product page mixes replacement parts with optional accessories, which can make the list look larger than the number of components you would actually use to restore a BES880.
Items such as a replacement seal, basket, hopper, spring, or water tank restore an original function.
Products such as a naked portafilter, distribution tool, upgraded milk jug, tamp mat, or knock box are optional accessories. They may work with the BES880, but they are not replacement parts for a failed component.
Keeping those two categories separate makes it much easier to search for the actual part you need.
Genuine Breville vs aftermarket BES880 parts
Aftermarket does not automatically mean bad, and genuine does not automatically mean that every similarly named Breville part will fit.
For inexpensive fit-critical components such as group seals, baskets, springs, hoppers, and grinder parts, the safest starting point is Breville’s own BES880 compatibility listing.
If you choose a third-party part, verify:
- BES880 is explicitly named as compatible.
- The part dimensions match the original.
- Any production-revision requirement matches your machine.
- The listing is not actually for BES881 Touch Impress.
- Color or finish matches where the part is externally visible.
- The seller has a practical return policy in case fitment is wrong.
Do BES880 and BES881 parts interchange?
Some parts may be shared, but never assume they are interchangeable.
The Barista Touch BES880 and Barista Touch Impress BES881 belong to the same broad Breville family and both use 54 mm coffee hardware, but BES881 adds the Impress puck-preparation system and has different assemblies elsewhere in the machine.
Breville itself sometimes lists a component as compatible with both models and sometimes provides a separate BES881-only version. That official compatibility field is more reliable than deciding from a photo.
Do Barista Express and Barista Pro parts fit the Barista Touch?
Again, sometimes.
Breville shares a number of 54 mm components across the Barista line. For example, the genuine SP0001516 tamper and SP0001520 two-cup single-wall basket are listed for multiple models including BES880.
But shared basket diameter does not make the grinder, water tank, electronics, drip tray, touchscreen, steam system, or every portafilter assembly interchangeable.
Use the exact Breville compatibility list for the individual part rather than trying to create one universal “Barista series compatibility” rule.
Parts you should not buy until the fault is confirmed
A new component is not useful if the diagnosis is wrong.
Be particularly cautious before purchasing:
- Pumps.
- Solenoid valves.
- Control boards.
- Touchscreens.
- Internal milk-temperature sensors.
- Internal wiring harnesses.
- Internal tubing and hydraulic assemblies.
Those parts usually require internal diagnosis before replacement. Buying a pump because “no water comes out” can be an expensive mistake if the real cause is scale, a blocked path, or an incorrectly seated reservoir.

Breville’s current BES880 parts catalog acts as a compatibility reference and shows which components the company considers normal replacement parts for the machine.
After that, compare availability with established appliance-parts suppliers or major marketplaces. Genuine Breville parts frequently appear outside Breville when the manufacturer’s own stock is temporarily unavailable.
For marketplace listings, treat the model list as more important than the product title. A title stuffed with BES870, BES878, BES880, BES881, Bambino, and “all 54 mm Breville machines” deserves a closer compatibility check before purchase.
Check these five things before ordering a BES880 part
- Confirm the machine says BES880. Do not rely on “Barista Touch” alone.
- Identify the exact failed component. Avoid replacing assemblies when only a seal, spring, basket, or nozzle is damaged.
- Check Breville’s compatibility list. A 54 mm description alone is not enough.
- Check production revision and color where relevant. Burr assemblies and visible exterior parts are good examples.
- Keep the packaging until fitment is confirmed. This is especially important with third-party sellers and marketplace parts.
The safest way to identify a Barista Touch part
The BES880 shares enough hardware with other Breville machines to make replacement parts easy to find — but also enough to make careless compatibility assumptions risky.
Start with the location of the failed part, find Breville’s BES880 name for that component, and only then compare genuine and aftermarket options.
Pay particular attention to grinder production revisions, finish-specific tanks and drip trays, and anything advertised only by “54 mm” without an explicit model list.
BES880 + the exact component + the correct revision is a much safer buying rule than “it looks like the same Breville part.”
